Akinfenwa allays fears of Nigerians on Jega

The National Chairman of the Alliance for Democracy (AD), Mojisoluwa Akinfenwa, has allayed the fear of Nigerians that the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Attahiru Jega, may compromise during Saturday’s presidential election.

Akinfenwa, while addressing newsmen on Thursday in Osogbo at a programme organised by the Association of Veteran Journalists, Osun State chapter, expressed optimism that Jega would conduct free, fair and credible elections.

He noted that though there might be pressures on him by politicians to compromise the poll, Jega would decline to be used by the aggressive and selfish politicians.

“Of all the chairmen of electoral bodies appointed to handle various elections in the past, Professor Jega remains the best, having conducted credible elections in 2011 and subsequent elections that followed,” he said.

He, however, cautioned the INEC boss against allowing himself to be polluted by some dubious politicians, advising that if the use of smart card readers will mar the good conduct of the elections by disenfranchising some electorate, then it must be discarded.
