With the close of electioneering on Thursday ahead of Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections, the governorship candidates of prominent political parties in Oyo State embarked on last minute campaigns to endear themselves to electorates.
The major candidates, who embarked on aggressive campaigns, included the incumbent Governor Abiola Ajimobi of the All Progressives Congress (APC), former governors Adebayo Alao-Akala of Labour Party (LP), Rashidi Ladoja of Accord Party (AP) and Seyi Makinde, who is contesting on the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
While the APC was campaigning at Oluyole, Makinde was in Ibadan North-East and Akala was in Ibadan South East, with Ladoja’s supporters seen in vehicles moving from one street to the other.
At a mega rally organised by Alao-Akala, thousands of his supporters, including the National Assembly and House of Assembly candidates, assembled at the ancient Mapo Hall, Ibadan, to prove to opponents that their mentor still held sway in the state.
