An Ota Senior Magistrates’ Court in Ogun on Wednesday sentenced one Ayomide Sunday, 29, to one year imprisonment for stealing a Bajaj Motorcycle valued N120, 000.
Sunday, who resides at No. 27 Adeola St., Iyana Iyesi, is standing trial on a charge of stealing.
The Senior Magistrate, Mrs Titi Bello, in her ruling, sentenced Sunday to one year in imprisonment with hard labour or an option of fine of N50, 000 after he pleaded guilty to the charge.
The Prosecutor, Inspector Peter Molokwu, had told the court that Sunday committed the offence on March 10 at about 9:00 a.m. at Bolla, opposite Fabgemi Filling Station along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway at Ojodu Abiodun, Ota.
Molokwu said the offence contravened Section 390 of the Criminal Code, Vol. 11, Revised Laws of Ogun State, 2006.
He said that the complainant, one Sodiq Yinusa, had parked his motorcycle beside the road to defecate when the accused stole it.
“The accused was arrested on the third day by the police after the complainant sighted him on the motorcycle and reported at the station”, he said.
In another development, a 29-year-old man, Fisayo Olomojobi, who allegedly defaced posters of the PDP governorship candidate in Lagos State, Jimi Agbaje, was on Wednesday charged before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court.
The accused, who lives at No. 2, Amen Street, off Abule-Oja, Yaba, is being tried on a three-count charge of conspiracy, breach of peace and unlawful damage.
The Prosecutor, Corporal Iyobosa Onaiwu, told the court that the offences were committed sometime this month at Osborn Road, Ikoyi.
Onaiwu alleged that the accused and another also standing trial were found defacing some posters belonging to Agbaje.
The offences contravened Sections 166(d), 337 and 410 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Olomojobi, however, pleaded guilty to the charges.
In his ruling, the Magistrate, Mr F.J. Adefioye, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with one surety in like sum.
He said the surety must either be an elder or traditional head of a community.
The case has been adjourned to April 20 for mention.
