The governorship and state assembly election was held peacefully in major areas of Ogun State as low turnout characterised the exercise virtually in all the polling units in the state.
In areas visited, the card readers that were initially malfunctioning in the last presidential and national assembly election recorded improvement in major polling units in the state.
Also, the election was said to have been peaceful and violence free, according to Ogun State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Otunba Bimbo Ashiru, who also said the election was well-coordinated in his unit in Ijebu Ode. Ashiru, who spoke with journalists at Ward 9 Unit 4, Oli-Woro described the exercise as best electoral process so far, prayed that the electoral body do more by improving on its electoral process.
Meanwhile, three policemen were involved in a ghastly motor accident at Wasinmi area along Lagos - Abeokuta expressway in Ewekoro local government area of the state. The accident occurred in the early hours of Saturday while going on election monitoring exercise in the area. According to an eye-witness, a Hilux van belonging to Nigeria Police Force Ewekoro Divisional Police lost control and moved from its side facing the opposite road to Lagos when its tyres burst, leading to the crash.
It was gathered that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), identified as B.O. Bakare, was posted from Ado Odo division to monitor election in the area. Others involved in the accident includes one Ologbese Vincent, Nuhu and two others whose their identities could not be ascertained.
The police vehicle’s registration number was NPF 8182 C.
“One of the officers, Oyewole Afolabi, who was involved in the accident was fuming and shouting that he had warned that he was not going with the vehicle as they were not posted to the area.
Oyewole, who is a Corporal lamented that the driver of the bus was on high speed, noting that he was sleeping.
