The Independent National Electoral Commission in the early hours of Monday declared the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Nyesom Wike, the winner of the governorship elections in Rivers State.
Wike won the election by polling 1,029,102, which represents 87.77 per cent of the votes while the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Dr. Dakuku Peterside, came second with 124,896 votes (10.65 per cent).
Prince Tonye Princewill, who is the governorship candidate of the Labour Party got 10,142 to place third. His votes represents 0.86 per cent of the number of votes cast.
The Returning Officer, Prof. Faraday Orumwense, declared the results at the INEC state office in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
