The people of Adamawa state today received a shock on what it could be called abscondment from performing the constitutional duties of hand over by Bala James Nggilari the former Governor of Adamawa state.
The transition ceremony handover that holds in Mamudu Ribadu Square with thousands of APC supporters and the people of the state are full of expectations to see the former Governor (Nggilari) handing power to the new executive Governor but only to dashed off their hopes to see the deputy Governor performing the constitutional right.
The absent of Bala Marred and scuttles the smooth hand over ceremony as all logistics arrangements were poorly planed by the Bala's transition committee believing to have a court ruling to be passed on their favor on the 28th may but only to be dissappointed on the court verdict.
His deputy Mr. Sa’ad Tahir later handed over the mantle of leadership to Mr Umauru Jibirila.
Tahir, who represented the out-gone Governor, Mr James Ngillari, at Jibrilla’s inauguration, was attacked by some youths at the event.
Irate youths at the ceremony, held at Mahmud Ribadu Square in Yola, the state capital, also manhandled and damaged the car of a serving Senator, Alhaji Bello Tukur, who was rescued by security operatives.
He was whisked out of the venue.
Before the attack on Tukur, he was intermittently booed by the crowd at the inauguration venue while he was delivering Ngilari’s speech.
He was pelted with sachet water and shoes, and had to be immediately whisked off the podium by security operatives.
The angry crowd asked for Nggilari, who they threatened to stone as well.
They chanted in Hausa, “Bama so, Karya ne, mash Gudu su Gudu, lokacinku ya kare, meaning, “It was all lie, we don’t want you. Shut up! Your time is over, PDP killed our nation.”
It took the intervention of APC chieftains to calm down the crowd as security operatives, attached to the outgone deputy governor, had to whisk him away.
Tahir had earlier in his speech said the outgone administration was able to achieve a lot in the areas of fighting insurgency, education and youth empowerment with the call on the incoming government to improve.
In his inaugural speech, the new governor assured the people that he would run an open-door policy.
He lamented that Adamawa was among the most backward states, saying he was optimistic that with prayer and commitment, there would be light at the end of the tunnel.
“With God on our side, we shall overcome the problems bedeviling our state. I am therefore calling on all to join hands in moving the state to greater heights,” he said.
Sources say that the former governor run into hiding because of his inability to pay salaries and he indebted the state with Billions of naira and run for fears of arrest.
