Actress Aarthi Agarwal dies after liposuction surgery, aged of 31

Aarthi Agarwal, a popular Indian ‘Tollywood’ actress, died in New Jersey on June 5 after suffering a heart attack, only a few weeks after getting liposuction. Aarthi was just 31 years old. Find out all the details here.

Aarthi Agarwal, who underwent liposuction surgery a month ago, reportedly died of cardiac arrest at a hospital in Atlantic City, New Jersey on June 5, her father claims. Was the 31-year-old’s death caused by complications from her surgery? Here’s what we know.

Aarthi’s death comes roughly a month after her liposuction surgery in the United States, Daily Mail reports. Her father, Shashank Agarwal, said she died of a heart attack, according to the International Business Times. But her manager, Uma Shankar, denied that her death was caused by complications from the surgery. Apparently, they weren’t connected. Aarthi was actually battling obesity and pulmonary illness and died on the way to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, Uma claims.

Aarthi made her acting debut at 16, but shot to fame in 2001’s Nuvvu Naaku Nachav. And even though she was born in the United States, she quickly became a superstar in Indian cinema. She became popular in the “Tollywood” Telugu language film industry, according to Daily Mail, but also starred in Tamil and Hindi films.

In 2005, she allegedly tried to commit suicide after a relationship with a co-star ended, the Indian Express claims. In recent years, she moved back to New Jersey to live with her parents in Egg Harbor Township. Though her career had recently slowed down, her latest film, Ranam 2, was released on June 5 — the same day she died.

Our thoughts go out to Aarthi’s family and friends during this difficult time in their lives. This is so sad.
