Odemwingie extends his contract with Stoke City

Nigerian striker, Osaze Odemwingie, has signed a one-year contract extension with English Premier League side, Stoke City.

Odemwingie’s original contract expired at the end of June. The 33-year-old was, however, given a new one-year deal on Thursday by his employers, who promised another 12-month extension if the striker impresses.

Plagued by injury all through last season, Odemwingie now has another window to exhibit his skills as he is guaranteed to remain at the Britannia Stadium at least until the end of the 2015/16 season.

Speaking on the new development, Stoke City chief executive, Tony Scholes, expressed delight at keeping the Nigerian striker for another season.

“We’re delighted that Peter has extended his stay with us at the Cclub until the summer of 2016,” Mr. Scoles told Stoke City’s official website. “He suffered an unfortunate injury last season after making a big impression immediately after joining the club. Peter has worked incredibly hard to battle back from this to regain full fitness. He’s a popular figure not just in the dressing room but with Club staff and supporters so we are thrilled to keep him on board this season.”

Odemwingie originally joined the Potters in January 2014, and had a big impact in the Stoke City side that recorded its first ever top ten finish at the end of the 2013/14 calendar.

The former West Bromwich Albion and Cardiff City forward quickly became a favourite at the Britannia Stadium as he scored five goals in his first 15 appearances for the Potters.

In total, Odemwingie has found the net five times in his 23 appearances for Stoke City.
