Suspected APC thugs allegedly attack supporters of Dickson campaign

The Restoration Campaign Organisation of Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State, has raised alarm over the alleged unleashing of terror on supporters of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, by some thugs suspected to be supporters of All Progressives Congress, APC, in Agudama-Ekpetiama, Yenagoa Local Government Area of the state.

According to the Director of Publicity, Restoration Campaign Organisation, Jonathan Obuebite, two of those attacked were critically injured and are receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

Condemning the attack in a statement in Yenagoa, Obuebite described the attack as “unacceptable and one attack too many.”

Obuebite said the alleged APC thugs, led by a well-known thug in the area loyal to a former deputy governor, mobilized his thugs under cover of darkness, supported by three armed soldiers who acted as his bodyguards, as they pounced on the defenceless members of the PDP, shortly after the campaign team of the governor left the community at the weekend.

“The notorious APC thug, acting on the instruction of his god father, who was obviously irked by the defection of over 2,000 of its members to the PDP, swiftly moved in a commando like manner and descended on the PDP members who ran for their dear lives in the swampy bushes. Two of them were not as lucky as they were beaten to pulp.”

Reacting to the allegations, the Publicity Secretary of the state chapter of the APC, Fortune Paniebi, who is also an indigene of the area, described the area as an APC stronghold and accused the PDP of “spreading deliberate falsehood to portray the APC in bad light.”

He noted that the APC has been carrying out its campaigns peacefully despite provocation by some members of the PDP, adding that the party will not join issues with the PDP.
