The American President’s eldest daughter, Malia Obama, has quietly become quite the icon among natural black hair enthusiasts. Malia has been known to boldly rock her various natural hairdos around the bastions of power with no problem. She clearly has no hesitation showing off her African roots, figuratively and literally.
However, in the ever changing looks of a teenager surfing through the final stages of puberty, Malia chose to rock a straight-curly weave to switch it up a little. Now the reports are coming out saying that some natural black hair enthusiasts are all knotted in a nap about it.
Perhaps those websites who have the audacity to criticize an ever changing 17-year-old should really loosen up, lay back and relax. Malia does not need the weight of a cultural movement upon her back, or atop her head, when she is still growing up and figuring herself out. This is the time in her life for experimentation, just like any other teen at that age.
Malia and Sasha both are of the most graceful children to ever accompany their parents to the White House to rule the world. These two young women should be celebrated for how they have conducted themselves and not criticized. Do you not agree? What is there not to be proud of? Do you, Malia!! We Love You!
