The Twitter handle of the Niger Delta Avengers, @NDAvengers, used by the militant group to announce its activities was on Monday suspended by the social media platform.
The group had on Sunday announced its recent attacks on oil facilities operated by Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Chevron Nigeria Limited and Nigerian Petroleum Development Company.
However, by Monday morning, the handle was taken down with a message on the social media platform which read, “Account suspended! This account has been suspended. Learn more about why Twitter suspends accounts, or return to your timeline.”
Spokesman for the group, Mudoch Agbinibo, confirmed the suspension in a statement posted on the groups Facebook wall.
“Notice! This is to bring to your notice that our twitter handle @www.twitter.com/@ndavengers has been suspended and our blog @www.nigerdeltaavengers disabled,” he wrote.
“We use this medium to appeal to our fans and supporter to be very careful with any website or twitter claiming to represent us. We shall launch new accounts soon! We must continue the struggle!!!”
