THREE people from the same family – believed to be a mother, father and one of their children – are dead following a horror single-vehicle accident on the NSW Central Coast.
Witnesses said the family’s silver Toyota station wagon was travelling northbound at up to 100km/h and did not brake as it veered off a stretch of Enterprise Dr, near Berkeley Vale, this afternoon and hit a tree.
Inspector Colin Lott said initial investigations suggested the three victims — a man, woman and a boy, 7— were from the same family, with the man aged in his early 40s and the woman aged in her late 30s.

The crash scene.

Police at the scene of the crash, where three family members died in Berkeley Vale.
Another boy, 11, has been flown to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead and was placed in an induced coma.
“It’s always a difficult scene at any fatality but to see potentially a whole family lost, it makes it that much more distressing,” Insp Lott said.
“All indications are it is one family but we are still making further inquiries – we have not been able to contact any relatives of the persons involved at this stage.”
Police believe the family was travelling through the area from Sydney.
Crash investigators have arrived at the scene and will check the vehicle to ensure there was no mechanical failure prior to the accident.
Driver fatigue or the possibility of the driver suffering a medical episode will also be investigated.
