
The President of Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Bobboi Bala Kaigama has called on journalists in the country to ensure high level of professionalism in their reportage to demand accountability and good governance from leaders at the helms of affairs to minimize corruption.
Kaigama made the call at an interactive session with newsmen on the best ways to share ideas, reporting practices that would ensure good and transparent democratic governance as well as minimise corruption in the country
He said: “We call on journalists in the country to ensure high level of professionalism in their reportage, to demand accountability and good governance from leaders at the helms of affairs to minimize corruption. This is because Nigeria is abound with lots of natural resources that can turn-around the economy when well-managed by our leaders.”
Accountability in governance he noted, could be achieved by journalists if they were independent, vibrant and exercised high level of professionalism in their work.
The TUC’s President stressed the need for media practitioners to reveal gaps in the policies made by their respective governments.
He, however, stated the need for journalists in the country to build their capacities to equip them with the requisite knowledge to hold leaders accountable.
