A Chinese student has admitted to killing a fellow student after he attempted to rape her. The 23-year-old, named only as Li, was detained by police in Beijing late on Monday on suspicion of murder.
The victim, who has been identified as 22-year-old Zhou Yunlu, was an aspiring actress who studied with Li at the Communication University of China, reported the People's Daily Online.
Ms Zhou, who was a graduate drama student, went missing on Sunday after reportedly going to shoot scenes for an amateur film that Li was making.
It is not yet clear whether she arrived at the shoot, but friends have said that she failed to turn up to a wedding later that day.
They added that they had tried to call her but both her mobile phones were switched off.
Her body was later discovered by police in a residential area in the Chaoyang District of Beijing, where it is believed the shoot was planned to take place.
On Monday evening, friends spread a post on the messaging app WeChat that said that Ms Zhou had been missing for more than 30 hours since Sunday.
Police have not yet commented on whether they have determined how Ms Zhou was killed.
The case remains under investigation by police.
