Colombian drug cartel member living as a celebrity DJ arrested in Italy

A Colombian drug cartel member has been arrested in Italy where he had been living a double life as a DJ who mixed it with the stars.

DJ 'Fexter', whose real name is Fernsterbein Fernando Ramirez, was arrested earlier this week in the north eastern Italian city of Udine.

Police had described him as being 'one of the most dangerous offenders' prior to his arrest.

He was based in San Andres, a Colombia island in the Caribbean, but he had lived in Italy since 2013 after fleeing the law.

While in Italy, he rubbed shoulders with celebrities such as Colombia star James Rodriguez, former Chelsea striker Samuel Eto'o and Argentine Maxi Pereyra, who now plays for Juventus.

Ramirez was part of the feared 'Los Mellos de Cassandra' criminal gang, which is accused of mass murder, drug trafficking and extortion.

Remarkably, he blew his cover when he flew to watch Colombia play in a friendly match against Peru in America last year, which ended 1-1.

The head of Interpol Colombia, Juan Carlos Gomez Arias, said: 'The operation had been planned for over a year by two departments.

'The courts had declared him as on the run and had charged him with various crimes, and recently the other Interpol office in Italy and the authorities in Bologna were working together to find and monitor the subject.

'Here in Colombia, we arranged the issue of the "red notice" and we were able to implement his capture.'
