The child’s father Michael A. Jones was arrested last month and charged with child abuse, aggravated assault and aggravated battery.
KansasCity.com reports that he was charged with murder on Friday. Remains of the boy’s body were discovered on Thanksgiving inside a barn on the family’s property.
Jones’ relative said that the boy’s corpse was fed to pigs on the property.
District Attorney Jerome Gorman said that the alleged crime scene was ‘one of the worst things’ that he had ever witnessed.
A $10m bond is the highest that Gorman asked for in his 34 years as a prosecutor.
The investigation began after police were called to the Jones residence the morning after Thanksgiving to look into a report of an ‘armed disturbance.’
When they went to investigate they learned that a seven-year-old boy had gone missing and after issuing a search warrant they found the boys remains.
