Lots of bombs hidden across Borno – Lai Mohammed

Following the recent Bomb blast attack in Maiduguri, the Information and Culture Minister, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, Tuesday affirmed there were lots of land mines planted across the state.

The Minister said over 6, 000 buildings were also destroyed by the insurgents during their various attacks.

He was reacting to allegations that IEDs initially planted in the captured local governments are being used by Boko Haram members as suicide vests. He spoke during a live TV programme in Lagos.

A number of local governments and connecting roads such as Moba, Abadam, Kokawa, Bama  among others cannot be accessed by motorists.

“When I was in Bama, the Gen. explained to us that at times, they also have move in with their bull dozers and anti-bomb units to clear the road. So it true that there are a lot of bombs which have been hidden in many places but ……..we need to remove the explosives before you can resettle the people.”

“People who have not been to the war front don’t know the extent of the damage that has been done. I was in Bama and over 6, 000 buildings, not one escaped destruction from the Boko Haram. So the process of resettlement and reconstruction is quite arduous.” However, the Minister restated that government is hopeful the military would overcome the insurgent and meet the deadline.

He urged the media to play a good role by offering equal reportage rather than giving unnecessary prominence to the insurgent.
