Man shoots 3 in fight over laundry, then killed by own son

A deranged dad went on a New Year’s Eve shooting rampage sparked by a beef over a washing machine, killing his wife and two others in his Los Angeles County home before his own son wrestled the gun away and killed him, authorities said Friday.

The 54-year-old father used a semiautomatic pistol in the bloodbath in Rowland Heights about half an hour east of Los Angeles, killing his 54-year-old wife, his son’s 48-year-old girlfriend and a 27-year-old man who was visiting, the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department said.

“It looks like it was a dispute between the dad and the son’s girlfriend, probably over using the washing machine,” Sheriff’s Lt. John Corina told the San Gabriel Valley Tribune. “For some reason, this set the dad off.”

The dad was a heavy drinker with a large gun collection and authorities had made dozens of previous trips to the home, police said. The 27-year-old victim was Ernesto Calzadilla, a close friend told the Daily News.

“I still can’t believe he’s gone,” said the friend, who did not want to be identified.

Christopher Morey, 33, is being held on suspicion of murdering his own father, though a sheriff’s spokesman said the charges could change.

“That was his girlfriend (who was shot). That’s why he went all crazy,” the friend said. Morey is being held on $1 million bail.
