Buhari will implement northern agenda – Ogunlewe

Former Minister of Works, Adeseye Ogunlewe, has said that those who are thinking of setting an agenda for the President-elect of Nigeria, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), are wasting their time.

Ogunlewe made the statement while speaking to Sunday Independent in Lagos.

He said, “A northern agenda is not to be determined by a southerner; all those who are talking of agenda on television stations are wasting their time”.
Ogunlewe added that northerners know how to use power and they will make the best use of every political opportunity that comes their way.

“I sympathise with Osinbajo and all those who are clapping and dancing over Buhari’s victory, it will soon turn to weeping and regrets because the North will soon gather their best brains, which may not include those who are jubilating now. I wish things would change this time around, but the northerners I know will not want to gamble with power.”

He also advised the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to put the loss of the presidential election behind it and wait for another eight years after Buhari’s tenure, pointing out that, “Anybody that is strategising to get power back in 2019 is wasting his time because now that power has gone to the North, it will remain there for eight years.”

Ogunlewe, who was Lagos State coordinator of the Goodluck Support Group, commended President Goodluck Jonathan for accepting defeat even before the final result of the election was announced. He said, “Jonathan has written his name in the annals of history for what he has done by not allowing the country to be plunged into crisis, which may be difficult to stop.”

Ogunlewe also urged Buhari to learn a lesson from the statesmanlike character of Jonathan and behave the same way when the need arises.
