President-elect Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari broke jinx of power transition – NLC

The Nigerian Labour Congress has said the President-elect, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari(reyd.), has broken a jinx in the area of the transition of power from a ruling political party to the opposition.

President of the NLC, Mr. Ayuba Wabba, in a statement on Wednesday, congratulated Buhari on his victory in the Presidential poll, which, he said, was the most keenly contested in the history of the country.
Wabba commended President Goodluck Jonathan for organising an election adjudged to be free and fair and for accepting the outcome of the polls won by his opponent.

He said the President fulfilled his repeated pledge that his political ambition was not worth the blood of any Nigerian, adding that Jonathan displayed statesmanship with his action and urged his teeming followers to emulate the President’s gesture.

He stressed that Jonathan’s action would define his place in the history of the country.
He said, “The Nigeria Labour Congress joins millions of our compatriots in congratulating Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) on his victory in perhaps the most keenly contested presidential election in the history of our country.

“We strongly believe that the election of Maj. Gen. Buhari has undoubtedly opened a new and important chapter in the socio-political development of our nation as we have finally broken the jinx of transiting from one democratically elected civilian government controlled by a ruling party to one controlled by an opposition party.

“We also commend the President, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, for not only organising an election adjudged to be credible and fair but also for promptly accepting its outcome even though he lost. This is statesmanship and is in keeping with his oft-quoted phrase that his election into the office of President is not worth the blood of any Nigerian.”
