Small arguments between lovers can sometimes escalate into a full-blown crisis, as one couple in China has proved.
A Chinese woman threatened to jump off a four-storey window yesterday in the province of Henan, after her husband failed to please her with his choice of lunch.
According to neighbours, a fight broke out because the woman's husband wanted to cook rice, but she insisted on eating noodles, reported the People's Daily Online.
The incident reportedly happened around noon in the city of Jiaozuo on November 19.
Pictures of the dramatic scene show the woman sitting on the ledge of her balcony facing a busy street. Her legs were dangling off of the wall.
According to eyewitnesses, the wife, who remains unidentified, was extremely emotional at the time. She shouted she wanted to commit suicide.
Neighbours said the reason behind the drastic decision was because she and her husband couldn't agree on what to cook for lunch and the couple ended up fighting.
Firefighters were eventually called to the scene.
The woman was successfully talked down after a one-hour stand-off with rescuers.
It remains unclear if she suffered from any injuries.
A number of Chinese women have been reported in the past months taking extreme actions in order to get what they wanted.
One fashion-concious woman in Shandong Province, east China, threatened to take her own life by jumping into a lake in June after her husband refused to buy her the new handbag she wanted.
Another woman from Jiangxi Province, south China, stole a £40,000 Audi straight from the dealer after throwing a tantrum when her boyfriend said no to footing the bill.
