Jared Fogle, 37, is finally getting what he deserves. The former face of Subway, was sentenced to 15.8 years even though his attorney’s attempted to lower it to five years. Jared accepted a plea deal in August for possessing and distributing child porn and also admitting to having sex with at least two underage girls.
And there you have it, Jared is going to serve 15.8 years (188 months), on each count to be served concurrently. Also, he’ll be on lifetime supervised release.
While in the court room, he pleaded guilty to one count of traveling to engage in illicit sexual conduct with a minor and distribution and one count of receipt of child pornography. When it came time for him to make a statement, he told the court, “For most of my adult life, I’ve been in the spotlight, trying to be a role model,” he said. “…I became dependent on alcohol, pornography and prostitutes.” He also stated “Members of my family are also victims of my acts,” and noted that his wife will be a single mother. The judge quickly piped in and told Jared, “You gave your wife $7 million, so she’ll be OK.”
Jared has already paid restitution to 14 of his victims for counseling and other things to help aide their recovery. Text messages found on Jared’s phone revealed that he paid at least $100 to have sex with a 16-year-old girl, on multiple occasions. But something odd that was brought up during the closing arguments was that forensic psychiatrist John Bradford testified for the defense and said that it’s possible Jared’s dramatic weight loss lead him to pursue minors. “Once he lost weight, it seemed as though in a short time he had hyper-sexuality. There are brain disorders that can be associated with sexual drive.”
John went on to claim that Jared had fantasies about girls around the age of 12 and 13 but really liked girls a bit older around 16 and 17. “Looking at all of this, I believe he did suffer from pedophilia, except it didn’t involve acting out with a child. He denies he ever touched a child,” he said.
