
The Police, on Monday, announced the death of Wilfred Obute an Assistant Inspector-General of Police, during a brief illness.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Emmanuel Ojukwu, who announced this in a statement in Abuja, said Obute died on March 20, aged 59.
The statement said Obute was in charge of Armament, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
Born on May 27, 1956, Obute enlisted into the force as a Cadet ASP on July 18, 1980 and had his initial training at the Nigeria Police College, Ikeja in Lagos.
He held a Bachelor of Education degree in Zoology and had attended several professional courses both at home and abroad.
He was an alumnus of the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Jos.
The late Obute also served as Commandant, Police College, Kaduna and in other capacities in the force.
The statement quoted the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Suleiman Abba, as commiserating with the immediate family of Obute and prayed the Almighty God to grant his soul eternal rest.
